About Friday Night Game Table
Hey! My name is Tim. I am a mechanical engineer by profession and an avid game lover. In college, way back in 1994, I played in my first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, was introduced to Magic: The Gathering, and stayed up all hours of the night playing Armada 2525 on the fraternity house computer with some of my brothers. ‘What, in a fraternity?’ Yeah, I know you were thinking that, but I was attending Illinois Institute of Technology, and so we had a bunch of game nerds in that Sig Ep fraternity. It was a fantastic time! There began a passion for games, pretty much all types of games; and I’ve been an enthusiast ever since. Over the years, I’ve gone to many gaming conventions. I played the tournament Magic scene for many years. I’ve played in the Diplomacy World Championship and actually faced up against the World Champion at the time. I have played a countless number of tabletop board games and card games.
Friday Game Night started out over 20 years ago in a friend’s basement. A group of guys would gather together (usually on Friday night) to play Magic and many other board games and card games. Occasionally, we even had close to a dozen folks and multiple different games running at the same time. Some of my greatest gaming memories with some of my oldest friends happened in that basement. From huge 9 player one-direction Magic games to Diplomacy games that just about resulted in fistfights, Friday night gaming has been a mainstay in my life for a very long time. When I met my wife (over a decade ago), I eventually had to explain why I was rarely available on Friday nights. At the time, that basement surely wasn’t a very attractive place to invite a new female guest, but when I finally came around to telling her what I was usually doing on Friday, she none-the-less understood. Since then, she has joined in on many game nights, usually hosted somewhere other than that basement, and that’s just one of the reasons I love her!
Now, the huge gaming table from that basement, where I’ve played a vast number of games over the years was eventually propped up by old hard drives, and held together with bungie cords. I’ve never seen another piece of furniture anywhere last so long and take so much abuse, but at the same time foster so many amazing experiences with so many different people. Hence, the idea for the name Friday Night Game Table.
So, this is my first attempt at creating an affiliate site, but it’s also just more of a blog site. I don’t expect to make a living doing this. I really want to share some of my gaming expertise by reviewing some of my favorite tabletop board games and card games, analyze some of my favorite Magic cards, and highlight some of my daughters' favorite games and toys that we enjoy playing with. And hopefully, it helps some of you find more enjoyment out of your own game night. If you read a review, and decide that you want to try a game out for yourself, or purchase something I talk about here, I am an Amazon Associate and a TCGPlayer Affiliate, and would certainly appreciate you using the links I provide that give me credit. Finally, if you made it all the way through my first blog here, congratulations and…Welcome to the Table!
